Conneaut Lake Park to go to tax sale

Submitted Thu, 05/23/2013 - 7:20am by Andy Alm

MEADVILLE – Conneaut Lake Park is headed for a tax sale.  The Crawford County Commissoners on Wednesday unanimously approved a measure that will set into motion the necessary steps to sell off the park property to pay down what is now an 877-thousand dollar tax debt.

Commissioners at the Wednesday meeting said they did receive a plan from the board of trustees, but it only involved paying current taxes, and asked for a delay in paying down the past debt.  That plan was rejected by the county commissioners.

MEADVILLE – One thing’s for sure… it wasn’t the weather that kept people away from the polls in Crawford County yesterday.  Just 13-percent of Democrats and 17-percent of Republicans bothered to show up to vote.  Melanie Mushrush is director of elections for the county.

“We have approximately 52-thousand registered voters in the county.  And 15-percent of that just doesn’t get it.  I’ve been doing this for six years now, and this is the worst I’ve ever seen.”

Small turnout predicted in today's primary election

Submitted Tue, 05/21/2013 - 8:23am by Andy Alm

HARRISBURG — The polls will be open from 7am until 8pm today.  Municipal primaries like this one are not high-profile affairs in Pennsylvania. Political observers anticipate only a 20% turnout statewide, and big city mayoral primaries will be driving much of that. In Pittsburgh, there’s a four way Democratic primary for the nomination.

One of the biggest races to watch locally will be the District Attorney contest in Venango County.  James Carbone is the lone Democrat on the ticket.  Meanwhile Brenda Servidio, Mike Hadley, and Shawn White are all vying for their party’s nomination on the Republican side.
