GUYS MILLS – Spina Bifida robbed him of the use of his legs, but that’s not stopping young Trent Hosick, of Guys Mills from jumping for joy this morning. The three-and-a-half-year-old Trent now stands tall with the help of a special walker that’s just his size. But getting that walker wasn’t easy.
Trent’s 29-year-old dad Tim Hosick tells us he struggled to get his insurance to cover the costly piece of equipment, and when the UPS man finally delivered it on Monday, the package was stolen from his doorstep on West Brookdale Drive before it was ever even opened.
“I more or less just picked up my phone and vented on Facebook,” Hosick said.
What happened next was truly amazing.
“I honestly didn’t think it was going to blow up like it did. I mean it’s everywhere. I had messages on my Facebook from Erie and Oil City. I got almost 2-thousand posts from what you guys put on your Facebook page.”
Hosick’s message was shared more than 3-thousand times. Finally, on Wednesday, somebody returned the walker to the UPS store in Meadville.
“It’s unbelievable how,, when you ask somebody to do something, a community can come together to make stuff happen.”
Within minutes, Trent was up and walking. His parents, Tim and Debra, were proud.
And as for Trent….
“I love my new walker.”
Nothing but smiles.
