Three injured in Vernon Township crash

VERNON TWP. – Vernon Township Police are investigating a three vehicle accident on Route 6.  It happened at about 4:49 pm yesterday just west of the I-79 interchange.

Vernon Police Chief Randy Detzel says a pickup truck traveling east crossed into the westbound lanes and crashed into a Saturn Vue, which then impacted a Jeep Cherokee.  The male driver of the Saturn was extricated and flown to UPMC Hamot with severe injuries.  A female passenger in that vehicle was hospitalized as well, along with the female driver of the Jeep, who also needed to be extricated from the vehicle.  The westbound lanes of the highway were shut down until about 8:25 last night.
