HARRISBURG -- Pennsylvania's longest-serving U.S. Senator is dead at the age of 82. Arlen Specter was known for bolting from political parties during a long career as a lawmaker. Specter left the U.S. Senate as a Democrat, but was a Republican from 1965 until he switched parties in 2009. He lost his bid for re-election in Pennsylvania in 2010. The Yale Law School graduate represented Pennsylvania for 30 years in the U.S. Senate. Specter confirmed earlier this year that he was being treated for cancer. Specter is survived by wife, Joan, and two sons.
