Police this morning are continuing their search for a man described as “distraught” and thought to be armed, who officials believe is hiding out somewhere in the woods of Crawford County.  The search has been underway since about 9:40 Sunday morning, according to Crawford County 911 dispatchers.  The manhunt began in the Hecker Road area in Cussewago Township.

Area resident Carla Vega says she was just allowed back into her home on East Forest Road this morning, after being evacuated by police yesterday.

“My son was by himself I didn’t know what was going on.  They sent an escort car down to get my son.  I didn’t know what was going on. I was on my way home from work and they didn’t let me get back into the house.”

Vega says she was told a gunman was on the loose.

“There was a situation around here with a high-powered rifle, I guess.  I don’t know.”

Police are not releasing any further information.
