OIL CITY – As a network of trails connecting Erie and Pittsburgh nears completion, a new contest is offering entrepreneurs in the Oil Region an incentive to capitalize on the increased bicycle and foot traffic that will be coming through the area.

“This contest is to spur economic development for recreational activity, specifically along the Erie-to-Pittsburgh Trail.”

Debbie Lutz with the Oil Region Alliance tells us the Get on the Trail Business Plan Contest offers a grand prize of 5-thousand dollars, and second and third prizes of 2-thousand and 1-thousand dollars to finalists whose business plans are selected.

“Kayak rentals, sales, hiking, snowing, cross-country skiing, little coffee shops… obviously, bike shops and repair shops are always needed.”

Entrepreneurs wishing to enter the contest are encouraged to attend a kickoff event on May 15th from 6 to 8pm in the Great Room of the National Transit Building in Oil City.  Call the alliance by May 13th to register.  Contest applications are due July 1st.  For more information visit GetOnTheTrail.org.
