MEADVILLE – We may never know exactly what happened behind the Pampered Palate restaurant in Meadville, but it would appear that nobody got hurt. Meadville police were unable to turn up any evidence following reports of a gunshot from a neighbor near Randolph and North Main Streets.
The neighbor reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot shortly before 2pm Wednesday. Meadville Police responded and were unable to confirm any shots were fired, although several other residents in the area reported they heard a loud sound as well.
As a precaution, nearby First District Elementary School was put on lockdown for about 25 minutes.
Meadville City Manager Joe Chriest said he’s proud of the quick response of the city and the police department, but what actually made the sound remains a mystery.
“We had a great response. Everyone cooperated. And the best way it could have ended was that it was something that didn’t pan out.”
Chriest said there was a report of a man with a gun, but that also turned out to be a false alarm.
“We did have one report of a man with a gun working in someone’s backyard. Luckily, it turned out to be one of our plainclothes police officers.”
Officers were going door to door conducting interviews and searches, Chriest said.
