West Mead Township Police are releasing details of an accident that claimed the life of a Meadville woman late Tuesday night. Police are identifying Charlene Lillie, of Meadville, as the driver of a westbound 2000 Dodge pickup truck that, for unknown reasons, went off the road on Route 27 at the eastern intersection with Old Ellis Hill Road and smashed into the downstairs bedroom of a house, killing 51-year-old Carol Ramey in her sleep.
Police say the accident happened at about 11:30 last night. Police say Lillie’s vehicle failed to negotiate a left hand curve in the roadway and entered a yard, traveling “a substantial distance” before striking a few small trees, and ultimately striking and embedding itself into the residence at 21083 Old Ellis Hill Road.
Crawford County Coroner Scott Schell pronounced Ramey dead at the scene.
Police say a female passenger was in the truck.
No charges have been filed as of late Wednesday afternoon. A joint investigation into the crash is being conducted by the West Mead Township Police, PA State Police, the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office, and the Crawford County Coroner’s Office.
Coroner Schell says Ramey has a son and a daughter in the Meadville area.
Police are releasing no additional information at this time.
