TROY TWP. – A major accident just south of Townville, in Crawford County’s Troy Township. It happened near the intersection of Fauncetown and Crowther Roads, at about 9:10 Friday evening. A truck towing a log splitter was traveling south on Fauncetown Road when the driver, 56-year-old Phillip Young, of Guys Mills, pulled over to look at some mechanical problems with the splitter. Along with him was a 17-year-old from Guys Mills.
That’s when police say a northbound Jeffery Finch, of Townville, for unknown reasons crossed the center line and slammed directly into Young’s truck. The 49-year-old Finch was flung from his vehicle and landed in the middle of the roadway, seriously injured. His truck had rolled over onto its side. Police say Finch was not wearing a seatbelt.
Meanwhile the impact caused the truck that was towing the splitter to roll backwards about 90 feet, bumping into the teenage boy and tossing him into a field. Police say Young was run over by the truck.
Both the juvenile and Finch were flown to Hamot Hospital for treatment. Young was taken by ambulance to Meadville Medical Center.
The crash remains under investigation.
