WEST MEAD TWP. – A West Mead Township machine shop was approved for a five year tax abatement to help offset the cost of a recent expansion project. Crawford County Commissioners gave their seal of approval to a request for a five year Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance, or LERTA program for Phoenix Laser Solutions in the West Mead Industrial Park on McHenry Street.
The agreement would cut taxes on the new development by a predetermined amount in the first year, and then gradually ramp the taxes back up over the five years.
Owner Blair Learn says the shop has recently expanded from a nine-person operation to more than seventy employees.
The shop specializes in water jet and laser cutting, laser engraving and CNC machining.
Commissioners gave unanimous approval to the tax abatement last week. Township and school board officials approved similar incentives.
