FRANKLIN – Two up-and-coming performers from the region are headed to New York City next month in hopes of becoming the newest singing sensations on NBC’s hit talent competition The Voice.  Twenty-nine-year-old Rachael Mellor, of Grove City, and 22-year-old Beth Ann Proudfoot, of Franklin, will be in New York July 27th and 28th.

"I just kind of sing all over the area.  I sing in Franklin and Grove City," says Mellor.

Mellor, who works in the Grove City Outlets, and Proudfoot, a bartender, are both single mothers who are no strangers to the stage.  Proudfoot won last year’s Taste of Franklin competition… Mellor is a previous winner of Idol Night at the Commons and both have participated in American Idol.

Proudfoot says she and Mellor have been singing in the same competitions for years.

"We get to hang out together in the dressing rooms and cheer each other on, which is a lot of fun," Proudfoot says.

Local restaurants have organized fundraisers for the women’s trips.  In Franklin, the French Creek Café will be donating a percentage of the daily sales on Saturday, June 15 from 8 to four.

And Proudfoot is having a fundraiser on June 15th as well starting at 2pm at the Tamarack Tavern in Meadville.
