MEADVILLE — A Korean War veteran is laid to rest after being missing in action for 62 years. A motorcycle procession carried the body of US Army Sergeant Chester Williams into Meadville Friday afternoon. Williams, a Conneaut Lake native, was identified by DNA testing. He died of exposure after having been captured by Chinese forces in December of 1950. Williams was buried in the Greendale Cemetery in Meadville, bringing closure to family members like his great-niece Melody Bush.
“It’s been horrible, especially for our dad, not knowing where his uncle was. And of course, Uncle Chester’s mother, and all of them have passed on without knowing he had been found. It’s heartwarming. We shed a lot of tears,” Bush said.
