FRANKLIN – Fire completely destroyed a home in Franklin on Monday. The Franklin Fire Department was dispatched to 376 Grant Street for a fire with possible entrapment, yesterday morning at 9:51. The owner was soon located alive and well, outside the house. A dog that was believed to be trapped inside as well also was later found safe.
Fire officials said the construction of the house made battling the fire offensively extremely difficult, so crews quickly opted for a defensive strategy. They were on the scene for over four hours.
The house and contents were a total loss and are estimated at 75-thousand dollars. The house was owned by Robert W. Laing, Jr. and was insured.
Franklin firefighters were assisted by Franklin Police, Community Ambulance Service, National Fuel Gas, Penelec, and the Franklin Water Department.
The cause is under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious.
