ASHTABULA -- Authorities are investigating after a man gunned down his father on Easter Sunday outside an Ohio church. The shooting took place Sunday afternoon outside the Hiawatha Church of God and Christ in Ashtabula.
"I didn't see him, but I could hear him. Whatever rhetoric he was yelling, he was doing at that time with a gun."
Associate Pastor Steve Sargent tells Youngstown’s WKBN News the suspect waited outside of the church until his family came out and then said a few words before opening fire.
Police aren’t releasing names at this point, but witnesses have identified the victim as 52-year-old Richard Riddle, gunned down by his 25-year old son Reshad Riddle.
The Star Beacon is reporting the younger Riddle was yelling that the shooting was, "the will of Allah."
The shooter stayed at the scene and when police arrived, he was told to put down his weapon and when he did, he was taken into custody.
