MEADVILLE – Results of a review of the Crawford County Jail have been released. County officials granted an open records request by Forever Broadcasting on Wednesday and released the 52-page report, compiled by independent agents with the National Institute of Corrections. The report says overall, the jail is a well-run facility, but points out a few areas for improvement.
The most serious concern the report addresses is a lack of quality medical care. Investigators found that there have been a number of cases in which inmates were neglected medically. They praised the county’s recent decision to switch to a new healthcare provider and said the Prison Board should be especially vigilant regarding medical issues in the future.
Other concerns included a lack of follow up on inmate grievances, a lack of response to letters from the public, and perceived insensitivity to inmate and public concerns.
