Meadville Police say two young children are responsible for a fire that badly damaged a Park Avenue residence. The fire occurred at 590 Park Avenue. It was reported around 6:00 p.m. Thursday. It was extinguished in about 20 minutes.
Police say a joint investigation with Meadville Fire Department led police to a neighbor who said she saw "two young boys the day before, who were lighting things on fire on the north side of the residence." The neighbor identified the boys to police.
Investigators then went to the residence where the two boys live and spoke to them and their mother about the fire. The boys admitted they were playing with a lighter and started the house on fire.
The boys are 6 and 7 years old. Police are filing no charges against the boys because of their age.
Firefighters told Forever Broadcasting the home was vacant and there were no injuries.
