SPARTA TWP. – Fire claims a life near Spartansburg.  The home was in Sparta township on Route 77 near Ernest Road and was completely destroyed.  A name has not yet been released by the Crawford County Coroner.  Crawford County GIS lists the property as belonging to Donald McCray. The fire was reported to Crawford County Dispatch at about 7:12 this morning.  Spartansburg, Centerville and Bloomfield Fire Departments responded.

Cprl. Brian Fronk of the Pennsylvania State Police in Corry says a fire marshal will be investigating. Asked whether foul play is suspected, Fronk says State Police treat every fatal fire as a crime scene, but it's not yet known whether a crime has occurred.

"This is a very, very preliminary stage.  At this point in time, I can't even establish that a crime has occurred.  I know that there's a fire and it's a fatal fire.  This could be an accidental fire.  But I have the State Police Fire Marshal en route, and we'll be able to have more answers when his investigation is completed," says Fronk.

More details will be posted when we learn more.  Additional photos and more local news at www.palive365.com.
