CONNEAUT TWP. — Fire claims the life of an 11th grade Conneaut Area High School student. The fire was reported at around 1:20 a.m. today at 14948 Airport Road, Conneaut Township, Crawford County.
State Police say the victim’s parents and four brothers were all able to make it out of the burning home. Attempts by family members to rescue the teenage boy failed because of “extreme smoke, heat, and fire,” police say.
Linesville Fire Department responded to the scene and recovered the victim’s body from the bedroom where he was located. Several other fire departments assisted.
Crawford County Coroner Scott Schell pronounced the boy dead at the scene. All other family members were taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, and have since been released. The PA State Police Fire Marshal has responded. Though the fire remains under investigation, police say preliminary signs indicate the fire was accidental in nature and there is nothing suspicious.
