BREAKING: Meadville man survives jump from bridge

MEADVILLE -- A Meadville man is hospitalized after falling from a city bridge early this morning.  Meadville Police Chief Dave Stefanucci says 26-year-old Joseph J. Thomas, of 209 Spring Street, intentionally jumped off the Spring Street Bridge at about 6:35 this morning.  He landed in the westbound lane of French Creek Parkway.  He was taken by ambulance to Meadville Medical Center with back and leg pain.  Stefanucci estimates Thomas fell around 30 feet.  He was initially transported to Meadville Medical Center and was later take, via helicopter, to Hamot Trauma Center in Erie.  The extent of his injuries is not known, and his condition at the hospital was not immediately available.
