MEADVILLE – A changing of the guard, as Ainsworth Pet Nutrition, maker of Dad’s Dog Food, officially opens its doors in the former Meadville Municipal Building.

“I think this represents a tremendous commitment on the part of the management and staff of Ainsworth Pet Nutrition.  A real commitment to the City of Meadville keeping their corporate headquarters not only in the area, but actually moving it to the city.  It’s just a wonderful thing and we’re happy and proud to have them here,” said Meadville Mayor Christopher Soff.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday afternoon at the former city building, marking the beginning of a ten-year-lease with the city.  Mayor Soff tells us Ainsworth will pay 175-thousand dollars a year to lease the space on Water Street next to the Downtown Mall that used to house Meadville’s municipal offices and police department, before the city relocated to a former National Guard armory building at Diamond Park.

Doug Lang, co-owner of Ainsworth, said the deal came at a critical time for both Ainsworth and the city.

“We had grown, and were so fragmented in our workspace, that the opportunity to come and centralize our headquarters where people could interact was a critical business need, at the same time as the city was realizing an opportunity to downsize their facilities.”

At yesterday’s event, Courtney Tedesco, with Ainsworth’s marketing department, touted the upcoming French Creek Cleanup Day, which is happening September 7th.  She’s hoping this year will be bigger than ever before, and is pulling for another win in the Corporate Competition Division, which Ainsworth helped to develop.

Ainsworth has won the Hellbender Trophy in cleanup days two years running.  Last year, they pulled 5-thousand pounds of trash out of the creek.
