Accused West Mead meth producer due in court

WEST MEAD TWP. – A West Mead Township man accused of operating a methamphetamine lab is due in court this morning.  Thirty-seven-year-old Melvin Shane Beachy is set to appear in front of Judge Rita Marwood at 9:30 this morning for a preliminary hearing on charges his meth lab on Echnoz Avenue violently exploded.  Police say a 29-year-old woman and a three-year-old child were present in the home on April 30th.  One person reportedly suffered a minor injury in the blast.

Beachy is charged with Production of Methamphetamine, Causing or Risking a Catastrophe, Endangering the welfare of children, and arson related charges.  The judge this morning will decide if there’s enough evidence for him to stand trial.
