State Police IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY say 68 YEAR Dennis Yatta OF CuRwensville DIED IN A WRECK YESTERDAY MORNING ON ROUTE 879. THE crash INVOLVED 4 vehicles, including a tanker truck. 4 other people, including a 10 year old girl, were injured…AND THE ROAD WAS CLOSED FOR HOURS.

A 16 YEAR OLD Bedford BOY died in a CRASH TUESDAY morning on White Church Lane in Cumberland Valley Township.

State Police say Colton Tew in lost control On a curve and hit a tree. grief counselors WILL BE ON DUTY THIS MORNING AT Bedford High School, WHERE COLTON WAS A STUDENT.

 

31 YEAR OLD MatThew Shirk OF BELLEFONTE IS SERVING UP TO 18 YEARS FOR THE 2011 CRASH THAT KILLED HIS FRIEND, KELLY RIDER, AND INJURED SHIRK AND HIS 2 OTHER PASSENGERS. NOW HIs attorney IS ASKING FOR a new trial, CLAIMING THE JURY WAS PREJUDICED BY THE TESTIMONY OF A PATHOLOGIST WHO ESTIMATED THAT SHIRK’S BLOOD ALCOHOL AT THE TIME OF THE WRECK WAS POINT-226 PERCENT. THE LAWYER CLAIMS THE EXPERT WITNESS TESTIFIED IN PLACE OF A DOCTOR WHO WAS NOT IN THE COURTROOM. THE JUDGE WILL SOON RECEIVE LEGAL BRIEFS FROM BOTH SIDES.

 

A tractor-trailer driver and his passenger were injured after theIR VEHICLE RAN off ROUTE 322 IN RUSH TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY, ABOUT 6AM TUESDAY. STATE POLICE SAY THE DRIVER MAY HAVE FALLEN ASLEEP BEFORE SLAMMING INTO a tree, rupturing THE TRUCK’S oil and gas tanks. HAZ-MAT Crews cleaned up the mess. The truck was hauling juice, but none of IT was spilled. THE NAMES OF THE VICTIMS HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED.

 

WTAJ REPORTS THAT 19 year old CODY STOY OF Altoona is facing multiple charges FOR ALLEGEDLY taking SEVERAL safety pins OFF the ferris wheel at the Bedford County Fair last week. The pins were eventually returned to the owner of the ride. 

Stoy is charged with CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, Unlawful Taking, and Disorderly Conduct. POLICE HAVE NOT FILED ANY CHARGES SUGGESTING ANYONE ELSE WAS AT RISK.

 

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT 21 YEAR OLD RAYMOND ZUEST OF EAST FREEDOM HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH SETTING HIS APARTMENT BUILDING ON FIRE FRIDAY. ZUEST TOLD INVESTIGATORS IT WAS AN ACCIDENT, BUT THEY THINK HE USED A LIGHTER TO SET THE CURTAINS ABLAZE, THEN LEFT THE FORMER HAVEN REST MOTEL. LUCKILY, THE FLAMES QUICKLY BURNED OUT. ZUEST IS JAILED ON 50-THOUSAND DOLLARS BOND WITH A PRELIMINARY HEARING SCHEDULED TOMORROW.

 

ANOTHER HUNTINGDON COUNTY MAN IS FACING RAPE AND STATUTORY SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES. State Police SAY A 13 YEAR OLD BOY WENT TO ANDREW PATTERSON’S FARM IN MILL CREEK IN MAY OF 2012. THE 27 YEAR OLD PATTERSON ALLEGEDLY LOCKED HIM IN THE BARN AND ASSAULTED HIM. Patterson has pleaded guilty to Corruption of Minors In 2 OTHER CASES.

HE’S JAILED ON 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS BOND.

A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED TODAY FOR A CENTRE COUNTY MAN ARRESTED LAST WEEK WHEN State police FOUND A meth manufacturing operation IN A SHED AT HIS CENTRE HALL HOME. TROOPERS RESPONDED TO A DOMESTIC DISPUTE AFTER 45 YEAR OLD Duane Custred JUNIOR threatened to shoot and kill multiple family members. THE CONVICTED FELON IS ALSO CHARGED WITH ILLEGAL POSSIBLE OF a loaded revolver. BAIL IS SET AT 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS CASH.

preliminary hearings are scheduled today for 32 year old julie thomas and 18 year old quadir thomas who are in the blair county jail. police responded to a domestic incident and julie thomas lied about being alone with a child…then 2 men walked out of the house at 16-06 20th avenue. when backup arrived, officers searched the house and found a half ounce of cocaine, a marijuana pipe, a stack of money, and 3 handguns. the thomases are not related and are believed to be romantically involved. police had previously received complaints about that house through the push out the pusher hotline.

 

preliminary hearings are scheduled today for the 3 people charged with trying to rob an altoona man at the city hall commons apartment building last week. police say amber schwartztrauber told the man she needed help with her rent and offered sex for money. 2 of her friends, jonathan long and thomas birkl, allegedly forced their way into the man’s apartment…choked and punched him…then held a knife to his throat and said they had a gun. the victim called his father to bring money, but he questioned whether the thieves actually had a gun. that’s when they ran off without any cash. all 3 suspects are in the blair county prison.

HE PREVIOUSLY PLEADED GUILTY TO THEFT CHARGES FOR STEALING NEARLY 175-THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM 2 AREA CAR DEALERSHIPS BY SELLING CARS AND POCKETING THE MONEY.

 

BLAIR COUNTY’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE FELL TWO-TENTHS OF A PERCENTAGE POINT TO LAND AT 5-POINT-2 IN JUNE. BEDFORD COUNTY DROPPED FROM 7-POINT-1 TO 6-POINT-6. Triple a FUEL GAUGE SAYS Western Pa gas prices dipped about 4 cents to $3.72 a gallon this week. WITH THE ON-GOING geo-political tensions in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa, American motorists are paying the lowest average retail price at the pump since March 17TH. This is due to U.S. refineries running near their highest rates since 2005, according to the Energy Information Administration, and domestic demand that was reported last week to have dropped back below 9 million barrels per day. The national average dropped every day in July and has fallen on 32 consecutive days. Today’s average of $3.52 is 5 cents less than one week ago and 11 cents less than the same date last year.

Last year, the Pennsylvania State Lottery gave out 28-point-5 percent of its sales to seniors in the Commonwealth, and next year the amount must be increased to 30 percent, unless legislation is passed. Lawmakers are considering dropping that amount to 25 percent, arguing that more prize money would boost lottery sales and in turn provide more funding for older Pennsylvanians.
