ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM’S MERGER WITH UPMC TOOK EFFECT JULY 1ST…CREATING UPMC ALTOONA…AND HUNDREDS OF LOCAL RESIDENTS TURNED OUT LAST NIGHT TO ASK QUESTIONS AT A TOWN HALL MEETING. ABOUT 40-THOUSAND AREA RESIDENTS ARE INSURED BY HIGHMARK AND UPMC DOES NOT CURRENTLY HAVE A DEAL WITH HIGHMARK. TEEN KILLED/OTHERS INJURED

Several people Are STILL hospitalized AFTER THAT DEADLY WRECK ON KETTLE ROAD IN SINKING VALLEY Monday EVENING. State Police saY 18-year-old Susana Montero-Schezzini OF ALTOONA was speeding and hit a vehicle DRIVEN BY 26 YEAR OLD KAYLEE HARPER OF TYRONE. BOTH CARS ROLLED OVER. SCHEZZINI is in fair condition at UPMC Altoona. one of her passengers, 18-year-old Jordan Dodson Of Altoona, was killed. 18 YEAR OLD Emily Kissell OF Bellwood and 21 YEAR OLD Sarah Sweeney OF Altoona SUFFERED severe injurIeS. SWEENEY IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION AND No information HAS BEEN RELEASED on Kissell. HARPER AND HER 2 CHILDREN were not seriously hurt.

HOLIDAY WEEKEND FATALITIES

STATE POLICE COMMISSIONER FRANK NOONAN SAYS 11 people were killed and 241 injured in crashes investigated by TROOPERS during the 5-DAY 4th of July holiday driving period.
COPS WERE ON THE SCENE OF 811 WRECKS. 67 were alcohol-related, including 4 of the fatalities. 8 of those killed were not wearing seat belts. troopers MADE 411 driving under the influence ARRESTS. THEY issued 89-HUNDRED-86 speeding citations… cited 886 motorists for failing to wear seat belts…and WROTE 152 TICKETS to DRIVERS for not securing children in safety seats. DURING LAST YEAR’S 6-DAY HOLIDAY DRIVING PERIOD, 9 PEOPLE DIED IN 845 crashes.

SCHOOLS are getting a little less than 413 million DOLLARS in state fundING this year, the same aS last year. OFFICIALS SAY That covers about a fourth of the cost of running the 14 state owned universities.
