2 men die in wrecks

65 YEAR OLD DONALD GREGG OF SANKERTOWN DIED TUESDAY MORNING when his coal truck slammed into an embankment ALONG Route 422 near the intersection of Route 219 IN CAMBRIA TOWNSHIP. Police believe GREGG swerved to miss a truck HAULING A WIND TURBINE WHICH WAS pulling onto 422. It was VERY foggy AT THE TIME.

A DEADLY WRECK TUESDAY AFTERNOON IN QUEMAHONING TOWNSHIP, Somerset County. 47 YEAR OLD WILLIAM TAYLOR OF BOSWELL was killed WHEN HIS CAR COLLIDED with a DISABLED tri-axle truck THAT WAS PARKED ALONG THE SIDE OF ROUTE 30 NEAR THE ROUTE 219 INTERCHANGE.

a preliminary hearing is scheduled today for 29 year old Miranda Jo Weakland of altoona who is facing charges including Aggravated Assault of an Unborn Child. last month, officers responded to a report of an unconscious pregnant woman. Weakland was taken to UPMC Altoona where Doctors performed a c-section. the baby suffered a seizure and had to be flown to the neo-natal i-c-u at johnstown’s memorial medical center. Police also have surveillance video of weakland under the influence and shoplifting from a local convenience store that same evening. blood tests show she had taken various prescription pills.

woman lied about robbery

State College POLICE say a woman LIED WHEN SHE claimed SHE HAD BEEN ROBBED at knife point. THE Uni-Mart employee told OFFICERS she was walking in the parking lot on East College Avenue around 1:15 Tuesday afternoon when  a man approached her, cut her arms with a knife, stole the bank bag she was holding and ran away. surveillance footage SHOWS THE WOMAN was alone. no WORD if SHE WILL FACE any charges.

POLICE IN RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY, SAY 16-year old Darnell McLaughlin robbED the Honey Bear Mini Mart around 8:30 Tuesday morning. HE ALLEGEDLY jumped the counter AND pointed WHAT TURNED OUT TO BE A PELLET gun at the clerk and a customer demanding their money, BUT HE ONLY GOT AWAY WITH 4 PACKS OF CIGARETTES. he fled on foot down Luther Road tHEN GOT INTO HIS get-a-way car driven by 19-year Zachary Wissinger. Both TEENS were ARRESTED just a few miles away AND POLICE chargED THEM as adults.

The Altoona Government Study Commission heLD A public HEARING LAST night TO HEAR FROM LOCAL RESIDENTS, business OWNERS, and union leaders WHO SEEM TO SUPPORT switching to a Home Rule style of government. ALTOONA JOINED THE STATE’S distressed MUNICIPALITIES PROGRAM LAST YEAR AND HOME RULE WOULD ALLOW THE CITY TO CONTINUE TO OPERATE WITHOUT STATE CAPS ON EARNED INCOME AND PROPERTY TAX. A final decision WILL BE MADE in December. at least one more public hearing WILL BE SCHEDULED before then.

IDADO HAS THE SMOOTHEST HIGHWAYS AND CALIFORNIA’S ARE THE BUSIEST.

A new report from the Institute for College Access and Success says Pennsylvania is the 4th worst state in the country when it comes to student debt. The average student graduates with almost 30-thousand dollars in debt…And 70-percent of all students will be paying off some kind of debt. President obama is on a bus tour this week talking about making college more affordable and he will stop in Pennsylvania.
