CRASH VICTIMS LIFE-FLIGHTED

30 YEAR OLD JOSHUA MOTT OF RICHFIELD WAS FLOWN TO ALTOONA REGIONAL TRAUMA CENTER ON MEMORIAL DAY AFTER THE CAR HE WAS RIDING IN CRASHED ALONG ROUTE 35 IN DUBLIN TOWNSHIP, HUNTINGDON COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY 30 YEAR OLD KRISTIN MOTT RAN A STOP SIGN AT THE INTERSECTION WITH ROUTE 641. HER CAR COLLIDED WITH A PICKUP DRIVEN BY 70 YEAR OLD ELMER MARTIN OF LEOLA. THE MOTT’S CAR THEN HIT AN EMBANKMENT AND A UTILITY POLE.  BOTH DRIVERS HAD JUST MINOR INJURIES.

STATE POLICE IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY HAVE JUST RELEASED DETAILS about A SERIOUS MOTORCYCLE CRASH THAT HAPPENED SATURDAY ON THE JANESVILLE PIKE. TROOPERS SAY 63 YEAR OLD MICHAEL BROOKE OF CANADA WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ROAD AND UNDER COMPENSATED ON A LEFT CURVE. HIS BIKE RAN ONTO THE BERM, THEN FELL OVER AND SLID ABOUT 60 FEET INTO A TREE. BROOKE WAS THROWN ABOUT 20 FEET. HE WAS TAKEN TO ALTOONA REGIONAL TRAUMA CENTER.

STATON’S INJURED ATTORNEY IS OFF THE CASE

ANDRE STATON’S COURT-APPOINTED DEFENSE ATTORNEY TIM BURNS HAS BEEN RELEASED FROM THE CASE AFTER BEING ATTACKED BY A HAND-CUFFED STATON DURING A BLAIR COUNTY COURTHOUSE HEARING EARLIER THIS MONTH. BURNS SUFFERED A FULL BLOWN CONCUSSION AND OTHER INJURIES AND IS EXPECTED TO BE OFF WORK FOR QUITE A WHILE. STATON IS ON DEATH ROW AT THE STATE PRISON AT GREENE FOR THE 2004 STABBING DEATH OF HIS ESTRANGED GIRLFRIEND, BEVERLY YOHN, IN ALTOONA. STATON WAS HOPING FOR COURT PERMISSION TO REPRESENT HIMSELF, BUT NOW HE’S FACING AGGRAVATED ASSAULT CHARGES WHICH CARRY A POSSIBLE LIFE SENTENCE.

ANOTHER ARREST IN ALTOONA ROBBERY

THE ALTOONA MIRROR SAYS ALTOONA POLICE HAVE FILED MORE CHARGES IN THE CASE INVOLVING BROTHERS STEPHEN AND SHAWN ESPENLAUB. THEY’RE ACCUSED OF POSING AS D-E-A AGENTS AND STEALING CASH AND MARIJUANA FROM A DEALER IN THE CITY BACK IN DECEMBER. THEIR COUSIN, 21 YEAR OLD TRAVIS MCDONALD OF ALTOONA, IS NOW CHARGED WITH FELONY CONSPIRACY, THEFT, AND GUN CHARGES FOR ALLEGEDLY SUPPLYING 3 HANDGUNS USED IN THE ROBBERY. ONE of the GUNS HAD BEEN STOLEN AND IT WAS RECOVERED IN STEPHEN ESPENLAUB’S WIFE’S CAR. MCDONALD’S PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED TOMORROW. HE’S FREE ON UNSECURED BAIL.

SCHOOL BUS TACTICAL EXERCISE TOMORROW

WITH SCHOOL SAFETY ON THE MINDS OF ALL PARENTS…Tomorrow morning, the Logan Township Police Department Tactical Team, in collaboration with the Altoona Area School District and Student Transportation of America, will conduct a closed tactical training on bus entry at the district’s Bus Garage ON Greenwood Road. The training exercise will involve one SCHOOl bus and the new Blair County Armored Vehicle. The objective is to enter and disable a bus, without damage, in the event of an emergency, forced entry, or kidnapping of the bus and students.
