SANDUSKY SCANDAL

JERRY SANDUSKY IS SCHEDULED TO TAKE PART IN A 3-DAY HEARING STARTING TODAY THAT WILL DETERMINE WHETHER PENNSYLVANIA SHOULD HAVE STRIPPED HIM OF HIS 49-HUNDRED DOLLAR PER MONTH PUBLIC WORKER PENSION. A SPOKESWOMAN FOR THE STATE EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT SYSTEM TOLD THE ASSOCIATED PRESS THAT PLANS CALL FOR SANDUSKY TO PARTICIPATE VIA VIDEO CONFERENCE FROM THE STATE PRISON WHERE HE IS SERVING 30 TO 60 YEARS.

A HEARING TO DETERMINE THE FUTURE OF THE DEFAMATION LAWSUIT FILED BY FORMER PENN STATE PRESIDENT GRAHAM SPANIER WILL BE HELD TODAY AT THE CENTRE COUNTY COURTHOUSE. SPANIER WANTS TO DELAY THE SUIT AGAINST FORMER FBI DIRECTOR LOUIS FREEH UNTIL THE CRIMINAL CASE IS RESOLVED AGAINST SPANIER, TIM CURLEY, AND GARY SCHULTZ.

POLICE IN CAMBRIA COUNTY ARE INVESTIGATING 2 ARMED ROBBERIES THAT OCCURRED WITHIN ONE HOUR OF EACH OTHER. THE FIRST ROBBERY TOOK PLACE AROUND 7 LAST NIGHT AT A STORE ON THE 400 BLOCK OF MAIN STREET IN SOUTH FORK. THE SECOND HAPPENED AROUND 8 AT COUNTRY MART ON BRIDGE STREET IN SUMMERHILL. NO OTHER DETAILS HAVE BEEN RELEASED.

DEADLY SWINE FLU

ONE PERSON IS DEAD AND 8 OTHERS ARE HOSPITALIZED WITH COMPLICATIONS FROM THE SWINE FLU AT ALLEGHENY GENERAL HOSPITAL AND UPMC PRESBYTERIAN IN PITTSBURGH. THOSE WHO ARE ILL ARE SO SICK THAT THEY NEED MACHINES TO KEEP THEIR LUNGS AND HEARTS FUNCTIONING. THE SWINE FLU, ALSO KNOWN AS H1N1, IS A PREVALENT STRAIN OF THE FLU THIS YEAR. DOCTORS SAY THE STRAIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE FLU VACCINE THIS SEASON BUT REMIND PEOPLE THEY CAN BECOME INFECTED EVEN AFTER RECEIVING THE VACCINE.

UNEMPLOYMENT FALLS LOCALLY

BLAIR COUNTY’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPPED ONE-TENTH OF A PERCENT IN NOVEMBER AND STANDS AT 6-POINT-7. SLIGHT DECREASES WERE ALSO REPORTED IN BEDFORD, CAMBRIA, AND HUNTINGDON COUNTIES. THE JOBLESS RATE CLIMBED ONE-TENTH IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY…AND CENTRE COUNTY HELD STEADY. THE STATE’S NUMBER FELL TWO-TENTHS TO 7-POINT-3…AND THE NATIONAL FIGURE IS 7 PERCENT, DOWN 3 TENTHS.

FLYING TO THE WINDY CITY

ACCORDING TO A NEWS RELEASE FROM THE UNIVERSITY PARK AIRPORT, 2 DAILY FLIGHTS WILL BEGIN FLYING DIRECTLY TO CHICAGO’S O’HARE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT STARTING TODAY. THE FLIGHTS WILL TAKE OFF AT 6:20AM AND 5:03PM. RETURNING FLIGHTS LAND AT 4:33PM AND 9:23PM.

ALSO LEAVING ARE JIM BERNHARDT, SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE HEAD COACH, AND STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACHES DWIGHT GALT AND SEAN HAYES. OFFENSIVE LINE COACH MAC MCWHORTER AND TIGHT ENDS COACH JOHN STROLLO REMAIN ON THE NITTANY LIONS’ CURRENT COACHING STAFF WITH LARRY JOHNSON AS INTERIM HEAD COACH.
