CONTROVERSIAL WEDDING IN STATE COLLEGE

STATE COLLEGE MAYOR ELIZABETH GOREHAM HOSTED THE marriage OF 2 PIKE COUNTY MEN YESTERDAY AT HER HOME. A FEW WEEKS AGO, SHE HAD SAID SHE WOULD MARRY ANY COUPLE WHO HAD A LICENSE, BUT THE CEREMONY WAS PERFORMED BY THE REVEREND KEN KLINE SMELTZER. The MEN ARE officially registered as married in Montgomery County. The Register of Wills there HAS BEEN ISSUING LICENSES DESPITE THE STATE’S BAN ON GAY MARRIAGE. As of Monday, thE MONTGOMERY COUNTY office has given out 137 same-sex marriage licenses.

HEARINGS SCHEDULED FOR ACCUSED KILLERS

Johnstown police SAY A PRELIMINARY HEarING IS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED THURSDAY FOR 21 YEAR OLD DEMETRIUS GIBSON OF TIRE HILL. AFTER NEARLY 2 WEEKS ON THE RUN, HE TURNED HIMSELF IN SATURDAY NIGHT. GIBSON IS CHARGED WITH THE AUGUST 6TH STABBING DEATH OF his girlfriend, ELIZABETH MILLER, AT A CARWASH IN MOXHAM. Police saY they're not sure where Gibson was hiding but they don't believe his family was involved.

 A preliminary hearing has been Scheduled Monday for 31 year old jonathan kuzma of Johnstown who is accused of beating his father to death with a hammer. 52 year old john kuzma was found dead in his moxham home on august 2nd. Jonathan Kuzma allegedly stabbed him as well and dumped the body in the basement…then stole money from his father’s safe to buy drugs.

SANDUSKY SCANDAL

NEW YORK BASED ATTORNEY MICHAEL ROZEN SAYS 25 MEN WHO CLAIM JERRY SANDUSKY ABUSED THEM WILL FINALIZE SETTLEMENTS WITH THE UNIVERSITY THIS WEEK, BARRING UNEXPECTED DEVELOPMENTS. STATE COLLEGE LAWYER ANDREW SHUBIN SAYS the former coach’s adopted son, MATT, WILL ALSO SETTLE HIS LAWSUIT. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING HIS NAME. Penn State authorized 60 million DOLLARS in settlements last month with NEARLY 30 claimants.

Penn State’s student member of the board of trustees is withdrawing as a plaintiff in the Paterno family’s lawsuit against the NCAA. PETER KHOURY TELLS THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES he was threatened with being removed from the group that’s searching for the next university president if he didn’t drop out. Penn State’s board spokesman, David La Torre, declined to comment on Khoury’s withdrawal and the threat. Penn State is not a party in the suit, though 4 trustees and 4 professors are plaintiffs.

PENN STATE’S ROYALITIES FROM LICENSED MERCHANDISE ARE  down more than 700-THOUSAND DOLLARS from last year…And almost 1 million from the peak 2 years ago. PENN STATE released the figures Monday. LAST WEEK, THE COLLEGIATE LICENSE COMPANY ISSUED ITS ANNUAL RANKINGS, SHOWING THE NITTANY LIONS HAD FALLEN FROM 19 TO NUMBER 12 ON THE LIST OF TOP ROYALTY-EARNING universities. A SPOKESWOMAN SAYS Money from the royalties goes toward scholarshipS and student-related capital projects.

VANDALISM AT PENN STATE ALTOONA

Campus POLICE AT Penn State Altoona are investigating a case of racially-motivated vandalism. According to A NEWS release, someone wrote “ethnically derogatory words, letters and insignias” on the walls of a second floor restroom in the Oak Hill Residence Hall last THURSDAY evening. Anyone with information SHOULD CALL University Police at the Ivyside Park Willow Building at 949-52-22.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE EMPLOYEE EMBEZZLES

A former employee of Penn Highlands Community College has admitted to stealing more than 171-THOUSAND DOLLARS…AND THE TRIBUNE DEMOCRAT REPORTS THAT 54 YEAR OLD TERESA PELOW was placed In the Accelerated Rehabilitive Disposition program. HER record WILL be cleared if all terms are met. PELOW, A FORMER BURSAR AT THE COLLEGE, MUST MAKE RESTITUTION PLUS COVER COURT COSTS. SHE WAS FIRED LAST YEAR.
