WOMAN DIES IN WRECK

ONE WOMAN IS DEAD AFTER A 2-VEHICLE CRASH WEDNESDAY MORNING ON ROUTE 22 EAST IN ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY 58 YEAR OLD CONNIE NAYLOR OF DYSART DIED WHEN HER SEDAN WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY AN S-U-V DRIVEN BY 32 YEAR OLD JENNIFER SLOAN OF CRESSON. SLOAN SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES.

PRISONER’S MURDER TRIAL TO BEGIN

JURY SELECTION IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TODAY FOR THE MURDER TRIAL OF 21 YEAR OLD WILLIAM CRAMER WHO IS ACCUSED OF STRANGLING HIS CELLMATE AUGUST 4TH IN THE CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON. CRAMER HAS PLEADED NOT GUILTY IN THE DEATH OF 28-YEAR-OLD WILLIAM SHERRY.
POLICE BELIEVE HE USED A BEDSHEET TO STRANGLE SHERRY AND THEN TRIED TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE SUICIDE. CRAMER WAS A STATE PRISONER WHO WAS BEING HELD AT THE COUNTY FACILITY TEMPORARILY. PROSECUTORS ARE NOT SEEKING THE DEATH PENALTY.

PENN STATE STUDENT WAIVES HEARING

IN CENTRE COUNTY COURT YESTERDAY, 19 YEAR OLD PENN STATE STUDENT IAN SHULMAN WAIVED HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING ON 53 COUNTS OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY. INVESTIGATORS FOUND OVER 100 IMAGES ON HIS COMPUTER. SHULMAN CLAIMS HE WAS COLLECTING THEM TO HELP THE POLICE, BUT HE DIDN’T FEEL HE HAD ENOUGH INFORMATION YET.

COUPLE STEALS GOLD

STATE POLICE IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY SAY 50 YEAR OLD STEPHEN HEIDEL OF MOUNT UNION STOLE GOLD WHILE WORKING AT F-C-I INCORPORATED IN SHIRLEY TOWNSHIP…THEN HE WOULD MELT IT INTO INGOTS AND HIS LIVE-IN GIRLFRIEND, 43 YEAR OLD LISA CRESWELL OF MOUNT UNION, WOULD SELL IT AT VARIOUS KIOSKS IN ALTOONA AND STATE COLLEGE MALLS. THE THEFTS OCCURRED FROM SEPTEMBER OF 2011 UNTIL THIS PAST MARCH. DISTRICT ATTORNEY GEORGE ZANIC SAYS THE TOTAL VALUE OF THE GOLD WAS ABOUT 103-THOUSAND DOLLARS AND THE COUPLE WAS ABLE TO SELL IT FOR ABOUT HALF THAT. HEIDEL AND CRESWELL ARE DUE AT A PRELIMINARY HEARING TUESDAY. HEIDEL IS IN THE HUNTINGDON COUNTY JAIL AND CRESWELL IS FREE ON BAIL.

SHEETZ EMPLOYEE ADMITS EMBEZZLING

45 YEAR OLD CATHERINE JOSEFIK OF PHILIPSBURG HAS ADMITTED EMBEZZLING MORE THAN 45-THOUSAND DOLLARS WHILE WORKING AS A CREDIT AND BUDGETING MANAGER AT THE SHEETZ CORPORATE OFFICE IN ALTOONA FROM SEPTEMBER THOUGH MARCH. HER ATTORNEY SAYS SHE WILL LIKELY WAIVE A PRELIMINARY HEARING SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 24TH AND SHE PLANS TO REPAY THE MONEY.

CRITICISM FOR PENN STATE’S PRESIDENT

FORMER NCAA ENFORCEMENT DIRECTOR AMEEN NAJJAR HAS HARSHLY CRITICIZED PENN STATE PRESIDENT RODNEY ERICKSON FOR NOT FIGHTING THE NCAA SANCTIONS FOLLOWING THE SANDUSKY SCANDAL. ACCORDING TO STATE COLLEGE-DOT-COM, EMAILS FROM NAJJAR WERE REVEALED YESTERDAY IN DOCUMENTS FOR THE NEVIN SHAPIRO COURT CASE. NAJJAR WAS FIRED BECAUSE OF UNETHICAL ACTIONS DURING THE ASSOCIATION’S INVESTIGATION INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI. IN ONE EMAIL, HE WROTE – QUOTE – “THE NCAA HAD/HAS NO AUTHORITY TO IMPOSE ANY PENALTIES IN THAT SITUATION AND PSU’S PRESIDENT SOLD THE SCHOOL DOWN THE RIVER.”
