A CLEARFIELD COUNTY MAN IS DEAD, THE RESULT OF AN APPARENT ACCIDENTAL DRUG OVERDOSE. STATE POLICE SAY 28 YEA ROLD ZACHARY JOHNS OF WEST DECATUR WAS FOUND FRIDAY AT A HOUSE ON SOUTH 2ND STREET IN PHILIPSBURG BORO. DRUG PARAPHERNALIA WAS FOUND AT THE SCENE. THE INVESTIGATION CONTINUES.

Today is labor day AND state and LOCAL police are partnering WITH PENNDOT to crack down on impaired driving. As part of the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" effort, Pennsylvania’s enforcement will focus not only on drivers impaired by alcohol, but also the increasing number of drug-impaired motorists. PennDOT statistics for 2011 show there were 3-THOUSAND-79 drug-related crashes statewide, with 116 fatalities. In 2012, those numbers increased to 33-HUNDRED-6 drug-related crashes statewide with 126 fatalities. Alcohol-related crashes ALSO increased ALTHOUGH Fatalities in those crashes decreased from 428 in 2011 to 404 LAST YEAR. During last year's Labor Day weekend, there were 125 alcohol-related crashes and 8 fatalities as well as 30 drug-related crashes.

the altoona mirror reports that a boston-based non-profit is considering buying and renovating the former frankstown armory using energy-efficient principles…if it can find the necessary governmental or non-profit partners. larry sprague, the executive director of the sustainable energy funding program says his agency borrows money to provide upfront funding for projects undertaken by state, county, or local governments, schools, libraries, museums, hospitals, senior centers, public housing agencies or other kinds of non-profits. the minimum bid for the armory is 1-point-52 million dollars. sealed bids are due in november.

NEW HOTEL IN ALTOONA?

the altoona mirror reports that intercontinental hotels group plans to build a 90-room, new-style holiday inn express by the fall of next year on a vacant lot in front of health south rehab hospital in altoona. greg morris, who owns the property, says it remains for sale and a deal is not yet in place.
