WHO THREATENED WATER SUPPLY? ALL DRINKING WATER RESTRICTIONS HAVE NOW BEEN REMOVED FOR PUBLIC WATER CUSTOMERS IN THE HOLLIDAYSBURG AREA. THE ALTOONA WATER AUTHORITY RECEIVED A VAGUE THREAT ON FRIDAY REGARDING THE HOLLIDAYSBURG SYSTEM. AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE, CUSTOMERS WERE INSTRUCTED NOT TO DRINK THE WATER. RESTRICTIONS WERE ISSUED FOR ALTOONA WATER AUTHORITY CUSTOMERS IN THE FOOT OF TEN AND OLD ROUTE 22 AREAS. ALL HOLLIDAYSBURG, BLAIR TOWNSHIP, AND FREEDOM TOWNSHIP WATER CUSTOMERS WERE ALSO AFFECTED. THE ALTOONA WATER AUTHORITY AND THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION CONDUCTED EXTENSIVE FIELD AND LAB TESTS AND FOUND THAT THE WATER IS SAFE. AFFECTED CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE A VALID PHONE NUMBER ON FILE WITH THE CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT WERE NOTIFIED ABOUT THIS EVENT VIA AN AUTOMATED PHONE CALL. ANY CUSTOMERS WHO DO NOT HAVE A PHONE NUMBER ON FILE SHOULD CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS AT 949-25-40 AND PUSH “OPTION 1.”

NOW THAT CUSTOMERS ARE ALLOWED TO DRINK THE WATER, POLICE ARE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE THREAT WHICH SAID THE PLANE 9 AND MULESHOE RESERVOIRS WOULD BE CONTAMINATED. AUTHORITIES SAY THERE IS A POSSIBLE CONNECTION BETWEEN THIS THREAT AND THE BOMB THREAT AGAINST THE BLAIR COUNTY COURTHOUSE LAST WEEK.

THE THREATS MADE IT AN EXPENSIVE WEEKEND. BUSINESSES HAD TO CLOSE THEIR DOORS…LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES HAVE TO PAY OVERTIME TO EMPLOYEES…WATER HAD TO BE DIVERTED FROM ALTERNATE SOURCES…WATER LINES HAD TO BE FLUSHED…AND MANY FOLKS HAD TO BUY DRINKING WATER. THE INVESTIGATION IS UNDERWAY AND AUTHORITIES HOPE TO FIND OUT WHO EMAILED THE THREAT.
