ALTOONA HERO

 

in altoona sunday afternoon, joel kyle rushed into the upstairs of a burning house and rescued 23 month old giovanni bongiorno when a fire broke out at his great grandmother, vicky ickes’, home along Maple Avenue. the baby was taken to upmc altoona and is doing well. 2 adjacent homes sustained smoke and water damage and 12 people including 5 children were left without a place to live. police say a large crowd gathered at the scene and an argument broke out. one man was arrested for public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. a 19 year old woman was also charged with disorderly conduct. officers eventually ordered everyone to leave.

 

DANGEROUS HEROIN

 

THERE WERE 14 heroin overdoses IN A 72 HOUR PERIOD LAST week IN CAMBRIA AND SOMERSET COUNTIES…AND NOW AUTHORITIES SAY AN ARREST HAS BEEN MADE. 24 YEAR OLD AARON WALTERS OF JOHNSTOWN IS ACCUSED OF SELLING a bad batch of heroin stamped with the WORDS “7 of Hearts”. Walters turned himself in SATURDAY EVENING AFTER he saw his picture on social media sites. Earlier this year, 22 people died in one weekend IN THE PITTSBURGH AREA DUE TO heroin laced with fentanyl. Officials cAN not YET confirm if this batch of heroin is laced with fentanyl.

 

2 MEN WANT SEPARATE TRIALS

 

20 YEAR OLD HUGO BAEZ OF NEW YORK IS CHARGED WITH MURDER IN THE HALLOWEEN NIGHT SHOOTING DEATH OF WILLIE SOLOMON AT CHOICES NIGHTCLUB IN ALTOONA…AND 24 YEAR OLD BRANDON MIDDER OF ALTOONA IS FACING AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND VARIOUS OTHER CHARGES. THEIR ATTORNEYS have REQUESTED SEPARATE TRIALS and blair county judGE ELIZABETH DOYLE WILL HOLD A HEARING today TO HEAR ARGUMENTS.

 

SON’S MURDER TRIAL

JURY SELECTION is scheduled to begin today for the cambria county murder trial of 31 YEAR OLD JONATHAN KUZMA of johnstown. Police say Kuzma STABBED his father, john, and beat him with a hammer BECAUSE HE refused to let his son use his car to go to a methadone clinic in Altoona. The BODY WAS FOUND IN THE BASEMENT. Jonathan ALLEGEDLY broke into his father’s safe and STOLE jewelry, money, prescription drugs, And a handgun WHICH HE used to BUY heroin.

ASSAULT IN ST. COLLEGE

2 State College men were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center early Saturday morning after they told police that 6 average-looking white men jumped them. The centre daily TIMES SAYS The incident reportedly happened around 1:45am near the 500 block of East Calder Way. NO OTHER DETAILS HAVE BEEN RELEASED.

CEMETERY VANDALISM

 

VANDALISM AT BOALSBURG CEMETERY IN CENTRE COUNTY. State College Police SAY SOMEONE Damaged more than 50 headstones. SEVERAL headstones were pulled out of the ground OR knocked over AND SOME of theM datE back to the 18-HUNDREDs. A ground-mounted spotlight at Saint John’s United Church of Christ across the street was also damaged.

G-M RECALL

 

General Motors is recalling more than 50-thousand new SUVs because of a fuel gauge problem. Most of the vehicles involved are 2014 Buick Enclaves.  Other models include the Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia. Federal safety regulators say faulty software may cause readings to be off by as much as a quarter of a tank.  Owners can take their vehicles to GM dealers to have the engine control modules reprogrammed.

THIS LATEST INCREASE MARKS 12 STRAIGHT WEEKS OF PRICE HIKES. IN OUR AREA, A GALLON OF GAS WILL COST YOUR $3.85…AND THE STATEWIDE AVERAGE IS $3.80.

 

LOCAL TEACHER WANTS TO WIN

 

A Penn Cambria teacher is still in the running for the top prize on THE RACHAEL RAY SHOW ON CBS. Lauren Kudlawiec of Ebensburg AND 4 OTHER CONTESTANTS WILL APPEAR AGAIN ON TODAY’S SHOW. The winner gets to have his or her recipes published in a cookbook. The “Rachael Ray Show” airs at 9AM ON WTAJ.
