FIREFIGHTER KILLED IN ACCIDENT

A firefighter FROM JACKSON TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY, died Saturday following an accident at his home.  32-year-old Gary Gongloff was pulling a stump out of his yard when his tractor flipped over and landed on TOP OF him. HE died at JOHNSTOWN’S MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER. Gongloff was engaged to a fellow firefighter AND was SCHEDUELD TO BE MARRIED in late September. The Cambria County Crisis Team IS providING crisis management to the first responders dealing with thE tragedy. 

PLANE CRASH IN MARTINSBURG

State Police and THE F-A-A are investigating SATURDAY’S plane crash on the runway at THE Altoona/Blair County Airport.
OFFICIALS SAY 2 people were inside the EXPERIMENTAL plane when it flipped upside down WHILE TRYING TO LAND. THE PILOT, CHARLES HAGERTY OF VIRGINIA, AND HIS PASSENGER SUFFERED minor injuries AND WERE TAKEN TO NASON HOSPITAL IN ROARING SPRING.

TRAIN VERSUS PICK UP

A PICKUP was hit by a train early Saturday IN UNION TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY…AND NOW 22 year-old Coty Johnson IS FACING DRUNK DRIVING CHARGES. STATE POLICE SAY JOHNSON was driving along South Eagle Valley Road when he tried to turn Into a private driveway AND got Stuck in a ditch next to the tracks. Johnson was able to get out OF THE VEHICLE before a Norfolk Southern train hit It.

A HEARING IS SCHEDULED TODAY FOR WILLIAM THOMPSON OF ALTOONA WHO IS SERVING A LIFE SENTENCE FOR THE 2002 STABBING DEATHS OF RAYMOND AND MARJORIE BRACKEN AT THEIR SPRUCE AVENUE HOME. THE JUDGE PLANS TO REVIEW SEVERAL ISSUES, INCLUDING HOW A FALSE STATEMENT THOMPSON GAVE TO POLICE OFF THE RECORD MAY HAVE AFFECTED HIS DEFENSE. THOMPSON ALLEGEDLY CLAIMED HE WAS AT THE HOME TO ROB THE COUPLE, BUT HE HAD NO PART IN THE MURDERS. 

WOMAN TORTURED FOR DAYS

CENTRE COUNTY AUTHORITIES SAY A WOMAN WAS held hostage, beaten, and tortured for SEVERAL days THIS MONTH AT A HOUSE in Boggs Township, Centre County. 35-year-old Justin Hinds IS BEHIND BARS AND a preliminary hearing IS SCHEDULED WEDNESDAY. THE WOMAN CLAIMS HE WAS HIGH ON BATH SALTS WHEN HE HELD HER CAPTIVE…strangled her…punched and kicked her…AND beat her with a nail taped to the end of a flashlight. HINDS ALSO ALLEGEDLY POINTED a LOADED SHOTgun At the woman and threatened to kill her. SHE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO ESCAPE ON JUNE 8TH. THE WOMAN TOLD POLICE THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME HINDS ABUSED HER.

IN HARRISBURG TODAY, THE HOUSE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE WILL HOLD ANOTHER HEARING TODAY ON SENATE BILL NUMBER ONE…THE 2-AND-A-HALF BILLION DOLLAR PROPOSED TRANSPORTATION BILL. THE MEASURE, WHICH HAS ALREADY PASSED THE SENATE, WOULD IMPROVE THE STATE’S BRIDGES AND REPAIR THE ROADS…BUT WILL ALSO LIKELY INCREASE VEHICLE REGISTRATION AND DRIVERS’ LICENCE FEES AS WELL AS THE PRICE OF GAS.
