FATAL CRASH

A DEADLY WRECK SUNDAY MORNING IN PINE TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY. IT HAPPENED AT MILE MARKER 113 ALONG INTERSTATE 80. STATE POLICE SAY A WESTBOUND VAN RAN OFF THE ROAD, HIT AN EMBANKMENT, AND FLIPPED ONTO ITS ROOF. THE DRIVER, 24 YEAR-OLD DARNELL LEWIS OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO, WAS KILLED AND 3 PASSENGERS WERE EJECTED…2 OF THEM WERE JUVENILES. THEY WERE FLOWN TO GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER AND THE OTHER PASSENGER WAS TAKEN TO CLEARFIELD HOSPITAL. POLICE SAY NO ONE IN THE VAN WAS WEARING A SEATBELT.

HUNTER’S DEATH ACCIDENTAL

42 YEAR OLD TIMOTHY BRUCE OF THE ASHVILLE AREA WAS SHOT TO DEATH WHILE DEER HUNTING SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN CAMBRIA COUNTY…AND HIS DEATH HAS BEEN RULED ACCIDENTAL. THE CORONER SAYS BRUCE WAS WITH A GROUP OF PEOPLE ON PRIVATE PROPERTY ALONG SEESTOWN ROAD IN ADAMS TOWNSHIP. ONE OF THE HUNTER'S GUNS WENT OFF AND HIT BRUCE IN THE ABDOMEN.

GUILTY PLEA IN JOHNSTOWN MURDER

20 YEAR OLD SHALIEK GREEN’S TRIAL WAS TO BEGIN TODAY IN CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT. INSTEAD, THE JOHNSTOWN MAN HAS PLEADED GUILTY IN THE MURDER OF JOSHUA PRICE AT HIS HOME ON CYPRESS AVENUE BACK IN FEBRUARY. AFTER THE GUNFIRE, GREENE FLED AND WAS LATER PICKED UP AT A HOME ON VON LUNEN ROAD. POLICE SAY GREENE WAS DATING PRICE’S GIRLFRIEND'S MOTHER AT THE TIME. HIS SENTENCING IS SCHEDULING FOR JANUARY 27TH.

INMATE ASSAULTS PRISON WORKERS

3 EMPLOYEES AT THE STATE PRISON NEAR STATE COLLEGE WERE INJURED SATURDAY MORNING WHEN AN INMATE GOT A SNOW SHOVEL AND STARTED SWINGING. HE HIT 2 EMPLOYEES IN THE HEAD…WAS STOPPED BY OTHER STAFF MEMBERS…THEN STRUCK ANOTHER EMPLOYEE. ALL 3 VICTIMS WERE TAKEN TO MOUNT NITTANY MEDICAL CENTER FOR TREATMENT. CHARGES ARE PENDING AGAINST THE SUSPECT.

SPECIAL ELECTION NEXT MONTH

STATE REPRESENTATIVE DICK HESS DIED THIS SUMMER AND A SPECIAL ELECTION IS SCHEDULED JANUARY 28TH IN PARTS OF BEDFORD, FULTON, AND HUNTINGDON COUNTIES. TODAY IS THE DEADLINE FOR CANDIDATE NOMINATION PAPERS TO BE FILED. THE WINNER WILL HOLD THE SEAT FOR LESS THAN A YEAR BEFORE THE NOVEMBER 2014 ELECTION.

GAS PRICES UP

DRIVERS ARE PAYING A LITTLE MORE AT THE PUMP THAN A FEW WEEKS AGO. ACCORDING TO THE LATEST LUNDBERG SURVEY, GAS PRICES HAVE RISEN ALMOST 3 CENTS IN THE LAST 2 WEEKS AND THE AVERAGE FOR REGULAR NOW STANDS AT $3.28. LOS ANGELES IS PAYING THE MOST WITH GAS AVERAGING $3.61, WHILE DRIVERS IN TULSA, OKLAHOMA ARE PAYING THE LOWEST AT $2.84. IN THE ALTOONA AREA, THE AVERAGE IS $3.45.

MILK RECALL

WEIS MARKETS IS RECALLING SOME OF ITS WEIS QUALITY MILK. OFFICIALS SAY THE RECALL INCLUDES WHOLE, 2-PERCENT, 1 PERCENT, SKIM AND CHOCOLATE MILK, ALL OF WHICH MAY CONTAIN ANTIBIOTIC RESIDUE. THE AFFECTED MILK HAS SELL-DATES OF DECEMBER 2ND OR 5TH. CUSTOMERS ARE BEING ASKED TO RETURN THE PRODUCT FOR A REFUND. THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPORTED ILLNESSES FROM THE MILK.
