DROWNING AT RAYSTOWN

A DROWNING YESTERDAY AT RAYSTOWN LAKE IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY 74 YEAR OLD JOHN WALKER WALLS OF DUNCANSVILLE WSA FISHING WITH AN 85 YEAR OLD  MAN WHEN WALLS LOST HIS BALANCE AND FELL OUT OF THE BOAT. IT HAPPENED SHORTLY BEFORE 7PM IN THE SOUTHERN END OF THE LAKE NEAR THE HERITAGE COVE RESORT. DIVE CREWS RECOVERED THE BODY A FEW HOURS LATER. AN AUTOPSY WILL BE PERFORMED TO CONFIRM THE CAUSE OF DEATH.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT

THE DRIVER WHO CAUSED A FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT IN ALTOONA WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON TOLD POLICE HE DID NOT SEE THE RED LIGHT. THE ALTOONA MIRROR SAYS THE MAN…WHO LIVES IN THE HARRISBURG AREA…WILL LIKELY BE CHARGED WITH FAILING TO STOP AT A TRAFFIC SIGNAL AND OTHER COUNTS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE FOLLOWING THE INVESTIGATION. THE MAN’S CAR STRUCK AN S-U-V DRIVEN BY A TEENAGE GIRL…THEN SLAMMED INTO 44 YEAR OLD ANN-MARIE CRUTCHER WHO HAD JUST GOTTEN OFF AN AMTRAN BUS. SHE DIED AT THE SCENE.

NOT GUILTY IN FRIEND’S DEATH

52 YEAR OLD RANDY FOOR OF BEDFORD ORIGINALLY PLEADED GUILTY TO INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER IN THE DEATH OF HIS BEST FRIEND, BUT HE LATER WITHDREW THE PLEA…AND YESTERDAY A JURY FOUND HIM NOT GUILTY. LAST AUGUST, FOOR AND DENNIS SPRIGG OF MANNS CHOICE WERE DRINKING AT A PARTY WHEN THEY ARGUED AND FOOR PUSHED SPRIGG WHO FELL AND HIT HIS HEAD. HE DIED 7 WEEKS LATER. THE JURY DELIBERATED ONLY ABOUT 45 MINUTES.

FORMER CAREGIVER GETS JAIL TIME

63 YEAR OLD DIANA FRYE OF ALTOONA WILL SPEND 30 DAYS TO 2 YEARS IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO NEGLECT OF A CARE-DEPENDENT PERSON. IN 2011, FRYE WORKED AT WARNER’S HOME FOR THE AGED AND AUTHORITIES SAY SHE AND 2 CO-DEFENDANTS NEGLECTED AN 80 YEAR OLD RESIDENT, LETTING HIM SIT IN HIS OWN FILTH. HE THEN DEVELOPED WOUNDS ON HIS BUTTOCKS, HIPS, AND LOWER LEGS AND LATER DIED. THE FORMER OWNER OF THE HOME, SHERRY JO WARNER AND MARJORIE KOCH, A FORMER AIDE, HAVE ALSO PLEADED GUILTY. WARNER RECEIVED 3 MONTHS TO 2 YEARS BEHIND BARS AND KOCH IS SCHEDULED FOR SENTENCING ON JULY 9TH.

ONE MILLION DOLLAR RAISE

BILL O’BRIEN HAD A GREAT FIRST YEAR AS PENN STATE’S HEAD FOOTBALL COACH…AND IT’S PAYING OFF TO THE TUNE OF NEARLY 1-MILLION DOLLARS. CHEERLEADER WILL RETURN

PENN STATE CHEERLEADER PAIGE RAQUE NEARLY DIED AFTER FALLING FROM A 5TH FLOOR APARTMENT WINDOW DURING A PARTY LAST YEAR…AND NOW HER FAMILY TELLS THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES THAT SHE WILL RETURN TO SCHOOL IN THE FALL. AIR FORCE 2 IN HAPPY VALLEY

AIR FORCE 2 USUALLY FLIES VICE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN AROUND…BUT HE WAS NOT ON BOARD WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON WHEN THE JET PRACTICED LANDING EXERCISES AT THE UNIVERSITY PARK AIRPORT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. PENN STATE PUBLISHED A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE PLANE ON TWITTER THURSDAY AND THE CAPTION SAID THE PILOT OF THE PLANE IS A PENN STATE FAN WHO ASKED TO DO LANDING EXERCISES THERE. BRYAN RODGERS, THE DIRECTOR OF THE UNIVERSITY PARK AIRPORT, SAID THE PLANE COMPLETED TOUCH-AND-GO LANDINGS BUT NEVER MADE A FULL LANDING BEFORE IT LEFT THE AREA.

EAGLE SHOULD RECOVER

A BEDFORD COUNTY FARMER MAY HAVE SAVED A BALD EAGLE’S LIFE YESTERDAY. HE FOUND THE BIRD…UNABLE TO FLY OR FEED… COVERED IN WHAT APPEARED TO BE VEGETABLE OIL AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE GAME COMMISSION. A SPOKESPERSON FOR CENTRE WILDLIFE CARE TELLS WTAJ THE 5 YEAR OLD EAGLE IS BEING HYDRATED. IT WILL BE SENT TO TRI-STATE BIRD RESCUE AND RESEARCH IN DELAWARE…AND THEN WASHED WHILE UNDER ANESTHESIA. AFTER REHAB, THE BALD EAGLE WILL BE SET FREE WHERE IT WAS FOUND. GAME COMMISSION OFFICIALS DON’T BELIEVE THE INCIDENT WAS INTENTIONAL.
