FLOODING

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS CONFIRMED THAT A TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN AT 6:14 WEDNESDAY EVENING NEAR EVERETT, BEDFORD COUNTY. THE TWISTER FINALLY LIFTED ABOUT 12 MILES LATER NEAR HOPEWELL AT 7:20PM. OFFICIALS RANKED THE TORNADO AS AN EF-1 WITH MAXIMUM WINDS OF 93MPH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, BUT 2 HOMES WERE DAMAGED. 1 BARN WAS DESTROYED AND ANOTHER HAD SOME DAMAGE.

A HANDFUL OF RESIDENTS IN OGLE TOWNSHIIP, SOMERSET COUNTY, HAVE BEEN ASKED TO EVACUATE THEIR HOMES AS A PRECAUTION BECAUSE THE DAM AT PINE LAKE HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. OFFICIALS ISSUED THE PRECAUTIONARY EVACUATION ORDER AT ABOUT 3 P.M. THURSDAY BECAUSE OF RISING WATER IN THE LAKE. NO FLOODING WAS REPORTED IN THE AREA, BUT STREAMS IN THE AREA WERE RUNNING HIGH. NO WORD WHEN FOLKS WILL BE ABLE TO RETURN TO THEIR HOMES.

RESCUE CREWS SPENT MUCH OF WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND PART OF THURSDAY RESCUSING PEOPLE FROM THE SUNSHINE BEACH COLONY NEAR CESSNA, BEDFORD COUNTY. THE RAIN WATER CAUSED PRETTY SERIOUS FLOODING BUT EVERYONE HAS BEEN ACCOUNTED FOR WITH ONLY MINOR INJURIES REPORTED. MANY BEDFORD COUNTY ROADS REMAINED CLOSED YESTERDAY AND OFFICIALS SAY THE FLOODING MAY HAVE WASHED AWAY PORTIONS OF SOME ROADS.

CRASH VICTIM CRITICAL

A WOMAN WAS CRITICALLY INJURED YESTERDAY MORNING WHEN HE PICKUP STRUCK A TREE ALONG ROUTE 26/PINE GROVE MOUNTAIN NEAR SHAVER’S CREEK IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED JUST AFTER 7AM AND IT WAS RAINING WITH HEAVY FOG. THE VICTIM WAS TAKEN TO MOUNT NITTANY MEDICAL CENTER BY AMBULANCE BECAUSE A HELICOPTER COULDN’T FLY UNDER THE WEATHER CONDITIONS.

2 CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

JOHNSTOWN POLICE SAY JONATHAN CRADDOCK AND JOHN LATTIMER ARE JAILED ON ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE CHARGES FOLLOWING A SHOOTING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND A POLICE STANDOFF. THE 2 MEN ALLEGEDLY WENT TO A HOME ALONG THOMAS AVENUE TO TRADE A GUN FOR MARIJUANA…THEN CRADDOCK SHOT THE HOMEOWNER IN THE ARM. THEY FLED TO A NEARBY HOME WHERE CRADDOCK SURRENDERED, BUT LATTIMER REMAINED HOLED UP INSIDE FOR HOURS BEFORE HE WAS FINALLY TAKEN INTO CUSTODY.

ASIAN RESTAURANTS RAIDED

FEDERAL AGENTS RAIDED AS MANY AS 9 ASIAN RESTAURANTS IN THE STATE COLLEGE AREA YESTERDAY AND DETAINED MORE THAN A DOZEN PEOPLE. THEY ALSO HAULED AWAY BOXES OF EVIDENCE. THE U.S. IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT AGENCY AND HOMELAND SECURITY CALLS THIS A TARGETED ENFORCEMENT OPERATION. OFFICIALS SAY RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT BE ALARMED ABOUT ANY PUBLIC SAFETY CONCERNS.

CHANGE OF VENUE?

A BLAIR COUNTY JUDGE HAS DELAYED HIS DECISION ON WHETHER TO BRING IN AN OUT OF COUNTY JURY FOR THE TRIAL OF ADAM HARDIN OF CLAYSBURG. HE WAS A COUNTY PRISON INMATE IN OCTOBER WHEN HE ALLEGEDLY HACKED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM AND MADE BOMB THREATS AGAINST THE BLAIR COUNTY COURTHOUSE…AND WATER CONTAMINATION THREATS AGAINST THE HOLLIDAYSBURG RESERVOIR. THE DEFENSE CLAIMS THERE HAS BEEN TOO MUCH PUBLICITY ABOUT THE CASE FOR BLAIR COUNTY RESIDENTS TO BE UNBIASED. FOLLOWING THE THREATS, SOME RESTAURANTS AND BUSINESSES HAD TO CLOSE FOR A WEEKEND.
