NURSES MAY STRIKE

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT REGISTERED NURSES AT UPMC ALTOONA HAVE ONLY MADE SLIGHT PROGRESS TOWARD AND NEW CONTRACT AND NOW THE HOSPITAL IS BRACING FOR A STRIKE. THE OLD CONTRACT EXPIRES TODAY AND NURSES HAVE ALREADY AUTHORIZED THE UNION TO SEND A 10-DAY STRIKE NOTICE. MAJOR ISSUES INCLUDE STAFFING, HEALTH INSURANCE, AND RETIREMENT BENEFITS. A HOSPITAL SPOKESMAN SAYS IN THE EVENT OF A STRIKE, THE HOSPITAL WILL BE FULLY STAFFED WITH PENNSYLVANIA LICENSED REGISTERED NURSES TO TAKE CARE OF PATIENTS.

ARREST MADE IN ANIMAL CRUELTY CASE

JOHNSTOWN POLICE SAY SAMANTHA MEYERS IS THE ONE WHO LEFT 2 PUPPIES TO FREEZE TO DEATH INSIDE A HOUSE ON BEATRICE AVENUE. OFFICIALS SAY THE HOUSE HAD DEPLORABLE CONDITIONS AND NO HEAT. IT HAS BEEN CONDEMNED. MEYERS IS CHARGED WITH ANIMAL CRUELTY AND IS FREE ON 5-THOUSAND DOLLARS UNSECURED BOND.

BANK HOLD UP

AUTHORITIES ARE SEARCHING FOR THE MAN WHO ROBBED C-N-B BANK IN MADERA, CLEARFIELD COUNTY, AT GUNPOINT THURSDAY MORNING. HE SHOWED A TELLER A GUN THEN, DEMANDED CASH. HE RAN OUT OF THE BANK WITH AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF MONEY. THE SUSPECT IS WHITE, ABOUT 6-FOOT-1, WITH A MEDIUM BUILD. HE WAS WEARING CAMO PANTS, A BLACK HOODIE, WHITE MASK, SUNGLASSES AND AN ORANGE SCARF.

WHO PROVIDED ALCOHOL?

STATE COLLEGE POLICE WANT TO KNOW WHO SUPPLIED THE ALCOHOL FOR A PARTY AT THE PALMERTON APARTMENTS LAST WEEKEND. THE IRS NEVER ASKS FOR CREDIT CARD NUMBERS OR CONTACT PEOPLE OVER THE PHONE.

ALTOONA FIRE CHIEF TIM HILEMAN IS ON HIS WAY TO KUWAIT AS PART OF OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.
