BODY IN CREEK

A PEDESTRIAN YESTERDAY FOUND A BODY PARTIALLY LYING IN BEECH CREEK ALONG ROUTE 150 NEAR THE CENTRE/CLINTON COUNTY LINE. CORONER ZACH HANNA SAYS THE VICTIM WAS A MALE, BUT NO DETERMINATION ON THE AGE HAS BEEN RELEASED. AN AUTOPSY IS SET FOR MONDAY.

KILLER SENTENCED

10 TO 20 YEARS IN A STATE PRISON IS THE SENTENCE FOR 45 YEAR OLD SHERMAN HOLES OF CHERRY TREE WHO PLEADED GUILTY TO 3RD DEGREE MURDER IN THE 2010 DEATH OF 79-YEAR-OLD ARTHER HENRY. HE WAS FOUND BADLY BEATEN AT HIS NORTHERN CAMBRIA HOME ON JUNE 30TH. HE DIED 3 DAYS LATER. HOLES SAYS HE WAS ON DRUGS WHEN HE HIT HENRY WITH A WOODEN PLANK.

DRUG ARRESTS

THE BLAIR COUNTY DRUG TASK FORCE ARRESTED DEVON ROCHESTER AND DAVID ROBENHOLT OF ALTOONA YESTERDAY AFTER THEY RETURNED FROM BALTIMORE WITH 10 GRAMS OF RAW HEROIN WHICH THEY PLANNED TO BREAK DOWN AND SELL FOR AS MUCH AS 5-THOUSAND DOLLARS. BOTH MEN ARE IN THE COUNTY JAIL AWAITING PRELIMINARY HEARINGS.

WHEN A FIRE AND AMBULANCE CREW WAS CALLED TO A MOBILE HOME ON LORAINE ROAD IN JACKSON TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY, YESTERDAY THEY FOUND MORE THAN 60 MARIJUANA PLANTS, LARGE BAGS OF PACKAGED POT, AND AN 18-GALLON STORAGE CONTAINER FILLED WITH POT. AN ARREST WARRANT HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THE APPARENT OWNER OF THE TRAILER, 53 YEAR OLD RICHARD WIEDENHOEFT OF JACKSON. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ON HIS WHEREABOUTS SHOULD CALL THE COUNTY’S NON-EMERGENCY NUMBER 472-21-HUNDRED.

ALTOONA POLICE SAY VEHICLE BREAK-INS ARE ON THE RISE…AND THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE NOW HAS SOME HINTS TO KEEP YOURSELF FROM BECOMING A VICTIM. POLICE BELIEVE THERE IS ONE PERSON OR GROUP RESPONSIBLE AND THEY HAVE BEEN BREAKING INTO GARAGES…BREAKING WINDOWS…AND CUTTING CONVERTIBLE TOPS ON SOFT-TOP CARS AND JEEPS. POLICE RECOMMEND HAVING SECURITY CAMERAS INSTALLED IF YOU CAN AND ALSO BRINGING YOUR VALUABLES INSIDE. ANYONE WHO SEES SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR AROUND PARKED CARS AT NIGHT IS ASKED TO CALL THE DEPARTMENT.

NURSES MAY STRIKE

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT THE REGISTERED NURSES AT UPMC ALTOONA VOTED WEDNESDAY TO AUTHORIZE THE UNION TO SEND A 10-DAY STRIKE NOTICE TO MANAGEMENT IF A NEW CONTRACT AGREEMENT CANNOT BE MADE. THE CONTRACT IS SET TO EXPIRE JANUARY 25TH AND NEGOTIATIONS HAVE BEEN UNDERWAY SINCE OCTOBER. THE NURSES ARE CONCERNED ABOUT STAFFING ISSUES, A WAGE FREEZE, AND BENEFITS CUTS PROPOSED BY THE HOSPITAL.
