Bridge repairs

PennDOT is moving forward with a plan to start fixing more than half of the state’s 998 structurally deficient bridges.

Officials announced yesterday that the agency is targeting between 550 and 650 bridges that are similar in design.

TheY ARE using a new contracting method that will award a contract to one team that will handle administering the design, engineering, and construction of the new bridges.

The old method handed out many contracts to tackle small groupings of bridges. PennDOT hopes to start replacing the bridges in 2015.

POTHOLES

PENNDOT is asking for the public’s help locating troublesome potholes. This winter’s frigid weather has caused the holes to appear on many major roads and crews are out making temporary repairs while the weather is mild.

YOU CAN call 1-800-FIX-ROAD to REPORT PROBLEMS.
