ATTACK MAY HAVE BEEN PLANNED -

 

according to today’s altoona mirror, robert ayers may have been planning  to attack his family for about a week before it happened. the 52-year-old huntingdon county man shot & killed his 2-year-old son on saturday morning, shot his wife, hollie and attemped to shoot his mother in her home near petersburg. ayers was later found in the cab of his truck  dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound. HOLLIE AYERS IS IN STABLE CONDITION AT ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM. huntingdon county district attorney george zanic says that evidence recovered from ayers home indicates that he was planning the assault for up to a week. the shooting remains under investigation.

 

ACCUSED DEALER IN COURT TODAY -

 52-YEAR-OLD KENNETH PINER IS SCHEDULED TO GO ON TRIAL TODAY IN BLAIR COUNTY COURT ON VARIOUS DRUG CHARGES. HE IS ALLEGED TO HAVE PARTICIPATED IN COCAINE RING THAT FUNNELED DRUGS FROM BALTIMORE TO ALTOONA. PINER HAS NOT DENIED SELLING SMALL AMOUNTS OF DRUGS IN THE PAST, BUT SAYS HE WASN’T PART OF  THE DISTRIBUTING LARGE AMOUNTS. PINER’S ATTORNEY SAYS THAT, DUE TO IMPROPER STATEMENTS MADE BY THE PROSECUTION TO THE STATE GRAND JURY IN 2011, SERIOUS DRUG CHARGES SHOULD BE DROPPED. THE TRIAL IS EXPECTED TO LAST ABOUT THREE WEEKS.

 

FATAL CRASH IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY -

STATE POLICE IN HUNTINGDON ARE INVESTIGATING A FATAL CRASH THAT HAPPENED SUNDAY NIGHT ON ROUTE 522, NORTH OF COVERED BRIDGE ROAD IN CROMWELL TOWNSHIP. THREE VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED IN THE CRASH. ONE PERSON IS DEAD, ANOTHER SUFFERED A SERIOUS INJURY AND THREE OTHERS WITH MODERATE INJURIES. NO OTHER DETAILS ARE AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

 

MORE WINTER WEATHER -

TEN COUNTIES IN SOUTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA ARE UNDER A WINTER STORM WARNING.  THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ISSUED THE EARLY SPRING WARNING AS A STORM SYSTEM MOVED INTO THE AREA FROM THE PLAIN STATES.  BY THE TIME THIS SYSTEM PASSES, SOME AREAS COULD SEE SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF ABOUT EIGHT INCHES. 

 

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENTS BEING INVESTIGATED -

STATE COLLEGE POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING TWO INCIDENTS INVOLVING PEDESTRIANS BEING HIT BY CARS OVER THE WEEKEND. ON FRIDAY NIGHT, 19-YEAR-OLD EVAN TAYLOR WAS HIT BY A CAR ON EAST COLLEGE AVENUE NEAR ELMWOOD STREET.  EARLY SATURDAY MORNING, 20-YEAR-OLD ROBERT DIAZ WAS HIT WHILE CROSSING NORTH ATHERTON AT MITCHELL AVENUE. BOTH VICTIMS WERE FLOWN TO ALTOONA REGIONAL TRAUMA CENTER FOR TREATMENT. THE DRIVERS IN EACH ACCIDENT WERE NOT INTOXICATED AND APPEARED TO BE DRIVING AT SAFE SPEEDS.

ACCORDING TO THE LATEST LUNDBERG SURVEY, THE NATIONAL AVERAGE COST FOR A GALLON OF REGULAR UNLEADED IS NOW $3.71, DOWN 3-CENTS FROM 2 WEEKS AGO AND DOWN MORE THAN 20 CENTS FROM A YEAR AGO. THE AVERAGE PRICE IN PENNSYLVANIA IS $3.65 A GALLON..BUT CAN BE FOUND AS CHEAP AS $3.59.
