 HEARINGS SCHEDULED IN BLAIR COUNTY -

 PRELIMINARY HEARINGS ARE SCHEDULED TODAY FOR DOZENS OF BLAIR COUNTY DRUG SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN A SWEEP LAST WEEK. STATE AND LOCAL DRUG AGENTS SAY THEY’RE CHARGED WITH SELLING HEROIN, COCAINE, MARIJUANA AND PRESCRIPTION DRUGS. 

 JOHNSTOWN DRUG BUST -

 JOHNSTOWN POLICE HAVE ARRESTED FOUR PEOPLE … AFTER GOING TO A HOME ALONG WOODVALE AVENUE TO SERVE AN ARREST WARRANT. POLICE SAY THEY FOUND BUNDLES OF HEROIN AND TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS HIDDEN IN A CEILING TILE.  POLICE DESCRIBE IT AS A SIGNIFICANT DRUG OPERATION.  ALL FOUR PEOPLE WHO WERE IN THE HOME NOW FACE DRUG CHARGES.

 ARMED ROBBERY IN PHILIPSBURG -

 ON THURSDAY NIGHT, THE PUFF SUPER VALUE TOBACCO OUTLET ON SOUTH FRONT STREET IN PHILIPSBURG WAS ROBBED AT KNIFEPOINT BY A MAN DESCRIBED AS BEING ABOUT 5-FEET, 6-INCHES TALL WITH A STOCKY BUILD, WEARING A DARK HOODED SWEATSHIRT AND CAMOUFLAGE PANTS. HIS FACE AND HEAD WERE COVERED. POLICE BELIEVE HE WAS HELPED BY A SECOND MAN WAITING OUTSIDE. THEY RAN ON FOOT AFTER STEALING CASH AND CIGARETTES. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION SHOULD CALL STATE POLICE IN PHILIPSBURG.

 ONE-CAR CRASH INJURES TWO -

 STATE POLICE IN PHILIPSBURG ARE INVESTIGATING A ONE-CAR CRASH ON I-99 IN WORTH TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY THAT INJURED TWO ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND WOMEN ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON. 54-YEAR-OLD ANN CONNELL WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN SHE LOST CONTROL OF HER VEHICLE AFTER BOTH THE STEERING AND BRAKES FAILED. HER 2010 FORD ESCAPE WENT THROUGH THE MEDIAN AND ACROSS BOTH SOUTHBOUND LANES BEFORE GOING AIRBORNE AND THEN ROLLED AFTER IT HIT THE GROUND. CONNELL AND HER PASSENGER, 22-YEAR-OLD ALISON CONNELL, WERE TAKEN TO MOUNT NITTANY MEDICAL CENTER FOR TREATMENT.

CAMBRIA COUNTY BUDGET -

CAMBRIA COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ARE SCHEDULED TO ADOPT A 2013 BUDGET TODAY.OFFICIALS SAY IT HOLDS THE LINE ON TAXES.

 FORMER ALTOONA COP TO BE SENTENCED IN MARCH -

 FORMER ALTOONA POLICE OFFICER ERIC KRINER WILL BE SENTENCED ON MARCH 13TH AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO CHARGES OF SIMPLE ASSAULT AND CONSPIRACY TO OBSTRUCT A LAW ENFORCMENT INVESTIGATION. THE CHARGES STEM FROM AN INCIDENT AT AN ALTOONA BAR IN 2010. TODAY’S ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT THE 32-YEAR OLD KRINER WILL RECEIVE PROBATION OR A LIGHT JAIL SENTENCE AND THAT HIS PLEA AGREEMENT WILL NOT REQUIRE HIM TO TESTIFY AGAINST DUANE EICHENLAUB, ANOTHER FORMER OFFICER CHARGED IN THE SAME CASE.

VALLEY VIEW DECISION NOT UNANIMOUS -

TWO  OF THE THREE  BLAIR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAVE VOTED IN FAVOR OF SOLICITING PROPOSALS FROM BUYERS INTERESTED IN PURCHASING VALLEY VIEW HOME…HOWEVER COMMISSIONER TED BEAM DOESN’T AGREE WITH PROCEEDING WITH THE SALE OF THE COUNTY-OWNED FACILITY. BEAM SAYS HE CHANGED HIS MIND AFTER LISTENING TO AREA RESIDENTS WHO HAVE SIGNED PETITIONS OR HAVE SPOKEN OUT AGAINST SELLING VALLEY VIEW.

 SHOTS FIRED IN CENTRE COUNTY -

 POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR A PERSON WHO FIRED SHOTS AT A SECURITY GUARD SHACK ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT ABOUT 10:30 NEAR A WELL-DRILLING SITE IN SNOW SHOE TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY. A SECURITY GUARD REPORTED THAT SOMEONE IN A DARK-COLORED PICKUP TRUCK FIRED FOUR SHOTS AND THEN FLED. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.

 MCQUEARY LAWSUIT WILL PROCEED -

 MIKE McQUEARY’S LAWSUIT AGAINST PENN STATE WILL MOVE FORWARD. IN A RULING YESTERDAY, JUDGE THOMAS GAVIN DENIED PENN STATE’S MOTION TO STAY THE FORMER ASISTANT COACH’S 4-MILLION DOLLAR WHISTLEBLOWER AND DEFAMATION SUIT AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY. McQUEARY IS CURRENTLY RECEIVING SEVERENCE PAY UNTIL JANUARY OF 2014 BUT THE JUDGE SAID THAT McQUEARY COULD RUN OUT OF FUNDS TO LIVE ON IF THE CASE WERE DELAYED.

 PA REPRESENTATIVE UNHAPPY WITH NCAA RESPONSE -

 PENNSYLVANIA REPRESENTATIVE CHARLIE DENT IS UNHAPPY WITH NCAA PRESIDENT MARK EMMERT’S RESPONSE TO A REQUEST TO KEEP ALL 60-MILLION-DOLLARS OF THE PENN STATE FINE IN THE COMMONWEALTH. DENT’S OFFICE RELEASED A COPY OF EMMERT’S REPLY TO THE REQUEST, WHICH SAID THAT A TASK FORCE HAS BEEN CHARGED TO ALLOCATE AT LEAST 25 % OF THE FINE MONEY TO PROGRAMS IN PENNSYLVANIA. DENT CALLED EMMERT’S REPLY “UNACCEPTABLE AND UNSATISFACTORY”.

 CORBETT CALLS FOR MOMENT OF SILENCE-

GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT IS ASKING PENNSYLVANIANS TO OBSERVE A MOMENT OF SILENCE AT 9:30 THIS MORNING IN HONOR OF THE SHOOTING VICTIMS AT SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. CONNECTICUT GOVERNOR DANNEL MALLOY HAD ASKED GOVERNORS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO JOIN IN THE REFLECTION.  MALLOY HAS ALSO REQUESTED THAT HOUSES OF WORSHIP AND GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS RING 26 BELLS IN HONOR OF EACH OF THE VICTIMS.

 WHOOPING COUGH CASES UP IN PA -

 PENNSYLVANIA HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY INSTANCES OF WHOOPING COUGH ARE MORE THAN DOUBLE WHAT THE STATE ENDURED A YEAR AGO.  AS OF DECEMBER 15TH NEARLY 1800 CASES OF PERTUSSIS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO HEALTH OFFICIALS.  LAST YEAR THAT NUMBER WAS LESS THAN 700. CUMBERLAND VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT OFFICIALS WROTE TO PARENTS IN AN EMAIL ABOUT FOUR CONFIRMED CASES LAST MONTH IN WHAT IS BELIEVED TO BE THE STATE'S LATEST OUTBREAK OF PERTUSSIS.
