BISHOP MCCORT PARENTS WANT ANSWERS

A BISHOP MCCORT HIGH SCHOOL PARENTS MEETING IS SCHEDULED TONIGHT AT 7 AT THE RICHLAND FIRE HALL. FRIDAY, THE SCHOOL BOARD ANNOUNCED THAT THE ASSISTANT HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL IS TAKING OVER IMMEDIDATELY FOR KEN SALEM, BUT THEY DIDN’T GIVE ANY REASONS. THE SCHOOL…AND THE ALTOONA-JOHNSTOWN DIOCESE…ARE FACING LAWSUITS FROM SOME FORMER STUDENTS WHO CLAIM THEY WERE MOLESTED BY FRANCISCAN FRIAR STEPHEN BAKER WHO WAS A TEACHER AND COACH THERE IN THE 1990’S. DOZENS OF PEOPLE SAY THEY WERE ABUSED BY BROTHER STEPHEN WHO COMMITTED SUICIDE IN JANUARY AT ST. BERNADINE’S MONASTERY IN HOLLIDAYSBURG. SALEM WAS A COACH WHEN BAKER WORKED AT BISHOP MCCORT AND HAD BEEN PRINICPAL SINCE 2006. HIS ATTORNEY SAYS HE DIDN’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT BAKER’S ACTIVITIES. THE GROUP OF PARENTS PLANS TO REQUEST A FORMAL MEETING WITH THE SCHOOL BOARD.

BODIES FOUND IN TYRONE

STATE POLICE AND THE BLAIR COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE DEATHS OF A 53-YEAR-OLD MAN AND WOMAN. A NEIGHBOR FOUND THE 2 BODIES INSIDE A HOUSE ON THE 200 BLOCK OF HUCKLEBERRY STREET IN TYRONE AND THEY ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE DIED SATURDAY NIGHT OR SUNDAY MORNING. THE MANNER AND CAUSE OF DEATH HAVE NOT BEEN DETERMINED AND AUTHORITIES ARE WAITING FOR FORENSIC TESTS. THE VICTIMS’ NAMES HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED.

WOMAN DIES IN CRASH

A DEADLY CRASH SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN SOMERSET COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY 70 YEAR OLD EVA KLINE OF SIPESVILLE WAS KILLED WHEN HER CAR WAS STRUCK BY AN S-U-V DRIVEN BY 19 YEAR OLD KYLE UPDYKE OF BOSWELL ALONG SOMERSET PIKE IN JENNER TOWNSHIP. UPDYKE WAS TREATED AND RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL.

CAMBRIA COUNTY HOUSE FIRE

NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AS FLAMES GUTTED A NORTHERN CAMBRIA HOME. THE FIRE BROKE OUT IN THE 11-HUNDRED BLOCK OF CRAWFORD AVENUE. A STATE POLICE FIRE MARSHAL IS INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE.

ARMED ROBBER ON THE LOOSE

THE PATTON TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT IS INVESTIGATING AN ARMED ROBBERY THAT HAPPENED JUST AFTER 8 LAST NIGHT AT THE NORTH ATHERTON PENNN STATE SUB SHOP. THE SUSPECT HAD A GUN AND MADE OFF WITH AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF MONEY. HE IS A SHORTER, WHITE MALE WHO HAD HIS FACE PARTIALLY COVERED. HE WAS WEARING DARK CLOTHING. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION SHOULD CALL POLICE AT 234-02-73.

DOCTOR DENIES ALLEGATIONS

STATE COLLEGE PSYCHOLOGIST RICHARD LENHART IS DENYING ACCUATIONS OF HAVING INAPPROPRIATE SEXUAL RELATIONSHIPS WITH 2 WOMEN. HE IS FACING 111 COUNTS OF PROFESSIONAL MISCONDUCT FOLLOWING A PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF STATE INVESTIGATION. VICTIMS SAY LENHART RE-TRAUMATIZED SEX ABUSE SURVIVORS. HE DID ADMIT TO TOUCHING ONE PATIENT AS PART OF HER TREATMENT.

FACULTY VOTING BEGINS

THOUSANDS OF FACULTY MEMBERS AT PENNSYLVANIA’S 14 STATE-OWNED UNIVERSITIES ARE VOTING TODAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY ON THE RATIFICATION OF THEIR FIRST CONTRACT IN NEARLY 2 YEARS. THE BALLOTS WILL BE COUNTED FRIDAY AT THE HARRISBURG HEADQUARTERS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF PENNSYLVANIA STATE COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY FACULTIES. THE 4-YEAR DEAL RECOMMENDED BY UNION LEADERS INCLUDES CONCESSIONS ON HEALTH CARE, BUT CALLS FOR PAY RAISES OF 1 OR 2 PERCENT IN EACH OF THE LAST 3 YEARS.
